Frequently Asked Questions

  • Coaching is a partnership, we work with each student individually to understand your goals, challenges, and dreams so that we can best support your experience. Our role is to help motivate, guide, and advise you. Coaching is not about giving solutions but rather working with you to come up with your own. YOU are the expert and leader of your college experience!

    Coaches will…
    • Introduce you to new skills and techniques.
    • Connect you with critical resources.
    • Hold you accountable.
    • Help make sense of all the information on campus.
    • Encourage you to level up in your college experience
  • We know that you hold other important roles besides being a student that can impact how you do academically! Coaches work with students holistically and can help you navigate all sorts of life situations to ensure that you are able to engage and get the most out of your college
    experience.

    This includes things like:
    • Managing competing responsibilities (work, family obligations, etc.)
    • Understanding academic expectations (and making a plan for success!)
    • Relationships, transitions, and identity
    • Understanding your purpose or “why” for being in college
    • Exploring opportunities to get involved
    • Navigating unexpected obstacles (i.e. bad grade, roommate issues)
    • Connecting you with and helping you feel comfortable using campus resources
  • Coaches are not academic advisors. Coaches are focused on helping you transition to Rutgers- Camden, develop essential success skills, set goals, and navigate campus. Your academic advisor can help you plan what classes to take, review different major/minor options, and discuss your graduation requirements to keep you on track. You should make sure to meet with your academic advisor at least once a semester, you can find them under your “success team” on NAVIGATE.
