First-Generation College Students
First Generation College Students is a collection of programs, organizations and services that support and celebrate students who identify as first-generation, or those whose parent(s)/guardian(s) did not complete a bachelor’s degree.
What We Offer
Over 50% of the Rutgers-Camden student body are first-generation students! We are proud of our first-gen community and are committed to providing you with the support you need to have a successful experience at Rutgers-Camden. Services include:
Semester workshops/programs that help you learn information, resources, and skills to support your academic, personal, and career goal attainment.
First-Generation College Celebration Week: A weeklong celebratory event is held every year the week of November 8th to recognize and celebrate the experiences of first-generation college students.
B1GS (Bridging First-Generation Students): A student organization dedicated to recognizing and creating a supportive community of first-gen students at Rutgers-Camden.

Alpha Alpha Alpha (Tri-Alpha)
Alpha Alpha Alpha (Tri-Alpha), is an Honor Society with the mission to encourage and reward academic excellence among first-generation college students.
Rutgers–Camden Tri-Alpha chapter, Beta Mu, provides members with opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and campus engagement for its members.
Eligibility requirements for undergraduate students:
- Must fall under the definition of first-generation: neither parents, step-parents, nor guardians of the student may have completed a bachelor's degree.
- Must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.2 or higher
- Must have earned at least 30 credit hours
- For transfer students, at least one semester of coursework must be completed at Rutgers-Camden
- Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) as a full-time degree student (12 credits or more) in a bachelor's degree program
- Pay national and chapter initiation fees of $25 for students
