New Students

Both first-year new students and transfer students attending Rutgers University-Camden for their first semester will be contacted by the Office of Admissions for information regarding registration. New first-year students will be required to take placement exams.  Transfer credits for transfer students are evaluated by the Office of Admissions, not by the Registrar’s Office.

Continuing Students

Continuing students at Rutgers University-Camden will receive notification through email (and other campus announcements) about the start of registration for each term.   Registration for Fall begins in late March or early April; registration for Winter begins in October; registration for Spring begins in November; registration for Summer begins in February.   Registration continues for each term through the Add/Drop period (usually the first week) of the term.   Please refer to the Academic Calendar for specific dates.  Continuing students should use WebReg to register for classes.

Registrations consists of the following steps:

  1. Course selection with the aid of academic or faculty advisor.
  2. Registering for selected courses using WebReg
  3. Confirmation of registration through RU Here
  4. Payment of the term bill including all tuition and fees for the approved program

Registration begins in a staggered formation, with Graduate students and seniors given first access to the system, followed by juniors and then sophomores and first-year students.  Veterans, athletes, and disabled students are normally given access to priority registration before the normal start of registration for continuing students.

Please note that some specific populations of students, such as Law, some professional programs, and co-hort groups, will follow their own registration procedures.  Please see the relevant program director for more information in those cases.

Non-Matriculated Students

Non-matriculated students are students that are taking courses at Rutgers University-Camden but are not presently seeking a degree from the university.   These may be students visiting from another institution, students seeking additional credits or certifications in lieu of or in addition to their already completed undergraduate degree, post-baccalaureate students taking courses in preparation for a graduate or professional program, or High School students attending the university while still in High School.   Non-matriculated students may take a maximum of 30 credits total across all non-matriculated semesters at the university.  After that, students will be required to matriculate to take additional credits.

Non-matriculated students may use WebReg to register for classes.  First semester non-matriculated students will register in August for the Fall term and January for the Spring term.  Continuing non-matriculated students register at the same time as other continuing students of the same credits earned totals.

Re-Enrolling Students

Re-enrolling students are students that previously attended any unit of Rutgers University and after a break of a semester or more desire to continue to take courses.  Students that entirely withdraw from a semester after the ADD/DROP period will be required to re-enroll to attend the following semester.

Re-enrolling students must submit the Re-Enrollment Application though Admissions and be re-accepted back into the institution before they may register for courses.  While students do not have to re-enroll in the same unit/program they last attended, they may only submit one re-enrollment application at a time.  Re-enrollment is not guaranteed, even back into the same program.  Some programs have competitive admissions and students must meet the minimum requirements for the program to which they are seeking admission.

Students seeking re-enrollment into Graduate programs should contact the program director of the program.  Most graduate programs do not permit breaks in attendance.

At Another Rutgers Campus

An undergraduate student in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences, University College-Camden, or School of Business-Camden may take courses offered at other campuses of Rutgers University.  Students in the School of Nursing-Camden should discuss this option with their advisor.  Intercollegiate registration requires the approval of the Dean of the appropriate school.

Graduate students who wish to register for courses at other Rutgers campuses should discuss this option with their program director.

Rutgers University-Camden students who wish to register for individual courses at the New Brunswick or Newark campuses may require special permission numbers or pre-requisite over-rides in order to register.  Students who wish to register for courses offered online or at the Off-campus locations may register using Webreg.

Courses taken at other Rutgers University Campuses will automatically appear on the student’s transcript, will be counted as credits earned toward graduation, and will be calculated into the student’s term and cumulative GPAs.

Courses taken at other Rutgers schools may not be recognized as meeting necessary pre-requisites for Rutgers-Camden courses when trying to register via Webreg.  When this occurs, students may need to do a pre-requisite over-ride to register for the course.  Please note that courses from another school of Rutgers may not fulfill a specific program requirement for a major, minor, certificate, or degree at Rutgers-Camden.  It is recommended that students verify with their program director or advisor whether any given course taken at another college within Rutgers will apply toward their particular program.

Courses taken at another Rutgers school will follow the registration policies and procedures of the school offering the course, not the student’s home school.  Students should pay attention to appropriate academic calendars and policies of the school offering the course.

For undergraduate degrees, a minimum of 30 of the final 42 credits must be taken at Rutgers-Camden, including at least 12 credits in the major in order for the student to graduate from Rutgers-Camden.

At Another University

Matriculated students at Rutgers University - Camden are expected to take all courses at Rutgers.  In rare cases, students may seek permission to take a course required for graduation at a non-Rutgers institution with permission of the appropriate Dean.  Lower tuition, scheduling convenience, or traveling distance are not considered sufficient reasons for taking courses at another institution.

Prior to enrollment, students who wish to enroll at another college for credit must submit a Transient Application Form, available from the offices of academic deans, for approval by the chairperson of their major department, the chairperson of the department in which the equivalent course is offered, and the appropriate academic dean. Under no circumstances will transient approval be granted retro-actively.

Upon completion of the course, students must request that an official transcript from the Registrar’s Office of the transient institution be sent directly to the Office of Graduate and Undergraduate Admissions, 406 Penn Street, Camden, NJ  08102.  Transient credit is treated the same as transfer credit.  The course title will appear with the original institution’s name on the Rutgers student transcript and the credits will count toward the total credits for graduation, but the course grade will not appear nor will it be calculated into the student’s term and cumulative GPAs.    Students must earn at least a grade of “C” in a course for the course to be transferred to Rutgers.

Full Time vs Part Time

The designation of students as full- or part-time is necessary for the regulations governing tuition charges, student fees, statistical records, financial aid, Veteran’s aid, athletic eligibility and other issues affected by such status.  Status is determined during the academic year terms as follows:

Undergraduate Students:

  • 12 or more credits = full-time (FT)
  • 6.0-11.99 credits = half-time (HT)
  • Fewer than 6 credits = less than half-time (LHT)

Graduate Students (excluding Unit 24):

  • 9.0 or more credits = full-time (FT)
  • 4.5 - 8.9 credits = half-time (HT)
  • Fewer than 4.5 credits = less than half-time (LHT)

Unit 24 (Law)  utilizes their own system for determining full- and part-time status. Please refer to the respective college catalog for classification within those units.

Summer Session

Applies to all students, regardless of registration type:

  • 6.0 credits or more = full-time (FT)
  • 3.0 - 5.99 credits = half-time (HT)
  • Fewer than 3.0 = less than half-time (LHT)

Winter Session

For the Winter Session, students are only permitted to take a single course or a total of 4 credits.  There is no recognized part time status; all students are considered full time.

Senior Citizen Audit

Senior citizens over the age of 65 that are residents of NJ may audit Fall and Spring term courses free of charge (excluding any individual course, lab, or materials fees, and any course materials including textbooks, which may still be charged) and without being a formally admitted student of the university.  Senior citizens must acquire the permission of the instructor and there must be space available in the course.  Admission to the course is at the sole discretion of the instructor.  No grade is given for the course, credit is not earned for a senior audit, and the course does not appear on any transcript.  Senior Citizen auditors are normally not required to take exams or complete assignments.  Online courses and courses open only to restricted populations are not eligible for senior audit.  All senior citizen auditors are required to upload proof of vaccination (or obtain a religious or medical exemption) regardless of course format.  Senior citizens doing a course audit should contact the Registrar’s Office for more information and registration materials.

Unemployment Tuition Waiver

Unemployed NJ residents may qualify to take courses at Rutgers-Camden through the Unemployment Tuition Waiver program.  Students will need to have already filled out a Financial Aid form (FASFA) and not be eligible for regular financial aid in order to utilize the program.

Students should communicate with the NJ Unemployment One Stop Center to determine their eligibility for the program.  There are two forms required from the Unemployment Office:  the "Unemployed Person Job Training Form" which is two pages and has the list of courses the student is eligible to take entered on it on the second page; the second form is the "Educational Development Plan," detailing the major and degree program goals of the student.  Both of those forms must be signed and dated by the Unemployment Office no more than 30 days before the start of the term, and must be brought with the student when they register as original copies.

Students may only register for courses that are listed on the form.  It is recommended that students include alternate courses in case courses are closed or otherwise unavailable at the time of registration.  It is also recommended that students speak with their academic advisor and have a prepared list of courses that would work for their program before going to the Unemployment Office.

Registration for courses is done on the first day of class of the term on a space available basis.  Classes that are closed at that time will not be available for Tuition Waiver.  Students that enroll in any classes before the first day of class are immediately disqualified for Tuition Waiver.  Student that are planning on using the program may not pre-register for any classes.  Tuition Waiver students may not have an academic overload or be admitted to closed or restricted courses even with instructor permission.

Students should bring the completed forms from Unemployment to Paul Butler in the Regsitrar’s Office in Armitage Hall no earlier than the first day of the term.  There is an additional form from Rutgers that must be completed at that time.
