Student Officers Achieving Recognition (SOAR)

Student Officers Achieving Recognition (or SOAR) is a program for registered officers of recognized student organizations offered by the Office of Student Involvement, which encourages the personal and professional development of individual student officers, while also recognizing the work those students do through their involvement as student leaders at Rutgers University – Camden.  Students who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate acknowledging their completion, be invited to a special luncheon, and will be recognized at the annual Student Leader Awards in the Spring (as well as receiving other swag items)!

SOAR is built on the learning objectives of the Office of Student Involvement, which are each housed under 5 core competencies.  Student officers that complete the SOAR program in a given academic year can be confident that they have met these learning objectives by completing at least 10 of the 12 optional opportunities and 2 required reflections of the SOAR program, listed below.  SOAR is available through the co-curricular paths function on Engage. Take flight and SOAR into leadership!

The SOAR program is composed of optional opportunities as well as required reflections. Student officers must complete at least 10 of the 12 optional opportunities from the list below plus 2 required reflections and submit documentation through Engage, here (insert hyperlink to paths once completed) by April 26, 2024.

  • Submit a 1-page, double-spaced reflection on an idea or proposal for the Office of Student Involvement or Rutgers University – Camden to better support student organizations and leaders.  This could be an idea for an event, service, software, etc. not currently being provided.
  • Connect with an alumnus through either the Student-Alumni Career Connect platform or one of Rutgers-Camden's Chartered Alumni Groups to discuss career paths and the connection between student involvement and career development, then submit a 1-page double-spaced reflection on how you plan to apply the lessons learned from that discussion to your career growth. We strongly advise connecting with the Career Center in advance of reaching out to an alumnus, to discuss best practices for crafting an interview request and developing relevant interview questions.
