Leadership

The Office of Student Involvement offers many opportunities for Rutgers-Camden students to invest in their development as a leader.  Throughout the year, we provide workshops and trainings, one-on-one consulting with student leaders, and interactive experiences to spark conversation on leadership topics.

The Office of Student Involvement is grounded in the following learning objectives, housed under 5 core competencies:

Community, Culture, & Leadership

  • Student officers will be able to articulate how their involvement in student organizations fosters a greater sense of community on campus
  • Student officers will be able to develop and implement leadership skills through their responsibilities as an officer of a recognized student organization
  • Student officers will reflect on integrity and ethical behavior, developing a greater sense of social responsibility to others, and acting responsibly in support of the larger community

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Student officers will be able to collaborate productively and exercise flexibility and willingness in making necessary compromises to accomplish a common goal
  • Student officers will be able to define how their work supports the work of their peers, assuming shared responsibility for collaborative work 
  • Student officers will develop interpersonal skills that help them engage in conflict resolution

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

  • Student officers will be able to differentiate between macro and micro level concerns and problems in order to develop more efficient and autonomous decision-making skills
  • Student officers will understand organizational responsibilities, acknowledge the possibility of change, and be able to prioritize and complete tasks

Creativity & Innovation

  • Student officers will be able to demonstrate the importance of remaining adaptable and calm in dynamic and stressful situations
  • Student officers will be able to reflect upon how mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow
  • Student officers will be able to acknowledge that problems often have multiple solutions and learn to create varied solutions to those problems

Communication & Technology

  • Student officers will understand the expectations of professional communication with peers, collaborators, and external partners both in-person and digitally, applying those skills universally
  • Student officers will demonstrate the ability to listen actively and communicate with peers, collaborators, and external partners for a range of purposes
  • Student officers will be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and proficiency in technological software used by Rutgers – Camden student leaders, including but not limited to Engage, EMS, eCater, etc.
  • Student officers will reflect on their leadership experiences and translate them into applicable skills and tools for their personal career growth
