Frequently Asked Questions

  • Honors College students who wish to make an appointment with an Honors College advisor may email the Honors College at Hcollege@camden.rutgers.edu or may reach out to individual advisors at the addresses below:

  • There are three usual points of entry:

    As a first-year student, following graduation from high school

    Membership is by invitation, based on the student’s high school record, at about the time of official admission to Rutgers-Camden. Most Honors College students are also offered scholarships to attend the university.  Acceptance of a Rutgers scholarship does not require enrollment in the Honors College itself.

    As a rising sophomore, after two semesters at Rutgers-Camden, with:
    • A minimum of 24 and no more than 45 earned credits
    • A GPA of at least 3.75
    • No more than one grade of W (Withdrawal) on the transcript
    As a transfer student, with 30-60 transferable credits

    Admission is by invitation, but it also requires a consultation with an Honors advisor and an individual agreement about remaining requirements. Most Honors transfer students are also offered scholarships to attend the university. Acceptance of a Rutgers scholarship does not require enrollment in the Honors College itself.

    If you do not join the Honors College–or do join but do not complete our program requirements–you still have many chances to earn recognition at Rutgers, including:

    • Latin honors (Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude)
    • Membership in honorary societies (Phi Beta Kappa, Athenaeum)
    • Honors in your major department (Biology, English, etc.) 

    A few students may become members on their own initiative.  Applications will be accepted between April 1st and July 1st, and will be reviewed each July. 

     

  • Yes! The Honors College admits students each year via application.

  • Honors College students are not required to live on campus in their first year, or any other year. Please check with Housing to learn more about Honors College designated floors.

  • Honors College students must meet with any of the Honors College advisors to select their first choice for an Honors College seminar. Honors College students who met with an advisor are registered automatically for Honors College seminars by their advisors.

  • Yes! Many Honors College students participate in athletics on campus, and student athletes may count their in-season participation as their “campus commitment” for the semester in which they played.  

  • Many Rutgers-Camden Honors College students are commuters. Indeed, the Honors College is confident that your experience as a commuting student will be enriched by your participation in the Honors College.

  • If the Schedule of Classes indicates that you need a special permission number to register for an Honors College seminar, then you must meet with your advisor to add your name to the list of students who will be registered for the course. The Honors College advisers will then add you to the course. If the Schedule of Classes indicates that you need a special permission number to register for any other course, you must contact the department. The Honors College does not have special permission numbers for courses in other departments.
