Through academic courses and programs, along with co-curricular experiences, Rutgers–Camden students become active participants in making positive change. Along the way, our students build skills that will serve them well in their lives as professionals and as members of communities.
Through research, teaching, and collaborative projects, faculty and staff from across the campus play a key role in advancing civic engagement. The Office of Civic Engagement supports Rutgers–Camden faculty and staff in all aspects of civic engagement—conceiving courses, projects, and programs; connecting with community partners; locating resources; and meeting logistical challenges.
The Office of Civic Engagement can support community-based collaborations on a variety of levels, from recruiting students in volunteerism, to providing long-term service internships, to engaging faculty in applying their expertise and experience to civic engagement.

Students can get involved by taking courses that include engaged civic learning. Students in some courses conduct research for a community organization. In other courses, students do hands-on service work that enhances their learning. Students can also participate in volunteer service, internships, or paid work as tutors for students in local schools.
Another way for students to get involved is through the Rutgers–Camden Civic Scholars program. This program selects dedicated students who commit to 300 hours per year of community service and participation in educational activities. Civic Scholars receive a $2,000 scholarship each year and are eligible to enroll in AmeriCorps and earn an additional $1,175 education award.

Getting involved is a great way for students to make a contribution while developing skills that will serve them as citizens and professionals throughout their lives. Opportunities are available for undergraduate and graduate students in all fields. Student clubs, teams, and organizations can also engage as a group.
