Verifying EOF Financial Eligibility

Step 1 — Complete FAFSA

  • Submit the 2025–2026 FAFSA and include Rutgers as a recipient school.
  • Rutgers school code: 002629
  • FAFSA determines your eligibility for EOF and other forms of aid — complete it ASAP.

Create a HESAA/NJFAMS Account

  • Set up a NJFAMS User ID and password to manage your state grant aid.
  • Use your account to view your To Do List, award and eligibility info, and state aid updates.

Step 3 — Check Your Financial Aid Portal

  • Log in at my.rutgers.edu to see which documents the Office of Financial Aid requires.
  • Upload documents directly through the portal.

Check Your Email Regularly

  • You’ll receive communication from both EOF and the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Use the same email you listed on your application and check it daily.

Tax Return Transcripts

  • If you/your parents filed taxes in 2023 → submit a Tax Return Transcript (a 1040 is not the same).
  • If you/your parents did not file → complete Form 4506-T (check box 7 for non-filing verification).
  • Allow up to 6 weeks if requesting by mail.

Supplemental Benefits

If your family received benefits, you may need to submit official statements:

  • TANF: Statement from the Division of Welfare (full year 2023)
  • Social Security: SSA-1099 forms for all recipients in 2023 (NJ SSA Office Locations)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI): Annual statement

You must manually enter household information — it will not auto-fill from FAFSA.

Parent signatures: 
Some documents require parental signatures. Students must set parent permission to custodial in the portal so parents can sign electronically.
