2020s

Elevation, Recognition, and the Centennial

The 2020s ushered in a new era of leadership and strategic elevation. In 2021, Antonio D. Tillis was appointed Chancellor, bringing a globally engaged vision rooted in academic excellence and inclusive representation. In 2022, Rutgers–Camden launched the first in a set of “15-In-5” initiatives, providing funding for transformative academic experiences for students, faculty, and staff.

Campus athletics and student life expanded with the Camden Athletic Complex opening in 2022 on the former Campbell’s Field site, offering state-of-the-art facilities. Recognition followed: in 2023, Rutgers–Camden rose in U.S. News & World Report rankings (Top 50 public schools; Top 100 national universities) and launched the centennial strategic plan, “A Century and Beyond of Excellence, Commitment, and Elevation,” guiding the journey to 2025.

Student achievement reached new heights with the campus’s first Truman Scholar (2024) and first Schwarzman Scholar (2025). In 2026, Rutgers University–Camden celebrates its Centennial, unveiling the Cooper Street Gateway—a transformative redevelopment of 13 lots and 11 historic buildings, creating a 50,000 sq. ft. hub for Arts and Sciences, community engagement, and public events while preserving historic exteriors and adding modern, sustainable facilities.
