The 2000s emphasized community, athletics, and scholarly innovation. In 2001, Rutgers–Camden partnered with the City of Camden to open the Rutgers–Camden Community Park, followed by Campbell’s Field—home to Scarlet Raptors baseball and the Camden Riversharks. The decade’s signature athletic achievement arrived in 2006, when Women’s Softball captured the NCAA Division III National Championship, the first Rutgers team to win an NCAA title in more than 60 years. Academically, 2006 also launched Rutgers–Camden’s first Ph.D. program—Childhood Studies—the nation’s first doctoral program in the field, cementing the campus’s pioneering role in interdisciplinary research.
