Unrecognized Organizations

An “unrecognized” fraternity or sorority is one which chooses to exist “off-campus” and/or has students who have become affiliated members of their organization while not meeting the minimum requirements of becoming a recognized, active fraternity or sorority at Rutgers-Camden; nor has the organization communicated its intent to become a recognized chapter. In many cases, these organizations seem to operate like recognized, active organizations due to the presence of individual members, but are not currently recognized as being an affiliated, active chapter at Rutgers-Camden. These organizations do not have any of the privileges recognized organizations have earned.

As a student, it is important to understand that if you choose to become a part of an unrecognized organization you will not be recognized by the university as a member of our fraternity and sorority life community, until an organization meets and maintains the minimum requirements for establishing on campus.

If an unrecognized organization wishes to establish themselves on the Rutgers-Camden campus they may visit our expansion policy page for more information or contact OFSA
