Rutgers University–Camden is celebrating the milestone achievements of Tiffany Chan CCAS’27 and Alan Rozenblit CCAS’26, who have been named 2025 Barry Goldwater Scholars. Chan and Rozenblit are among 441 students nationwide to receive the prestigious honor this year; they are also the first in Rutgers–Camden history to earn the award, which is given by the Goldwater Foundation to undergraduate students who exhibit excellence in natural science, mathematics, or engineering.

Chan, a sophomore studying computational and integrative biology, is an accomplished researcher who aspires to a career in medicine and neurophysiology. Her research interests include neural signaling, ion channel dysfunction, and medical therapies. She also aims to teach at the university level.

Rozenblit, a junior majoring in biology, intends to pursue a doctoral degree in molecular biology. Long term, he is interested in conducting research at the intersections of cancer, genetics, disease, and therapeutics. He hopes to guide future scientists in the lab as a faculty mentor and teach at the university level.

This year, reviewers selected scholars from a pool of 1,350 outstanding undergraduates nominated by 445 institutions. Named as a living memorial to honor the lifetime work of U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater, the Goldwater Scholarship Program was established in 1986 to identify, encourage, and financially support outstanding undergraduates interested in pursuing research careers in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics. The Goldwater Scholarship is the preeminent undergraduate award of its type in these fields and is one of the most sought-after and impactful science, engineering, and mathematics awards in the United States

Eligible students must be sophomores or juniors who intend to pursue research careers in natural science, mathematics, or engineering. At Rutgers–Camden, students are supported through the application process by the Office of Scholar Development and Fellowship Advising (OSDFA) and a dedicated faculty committee. Students who are interested in learning more about the Barry Goldwater Scholarship are encouraged to visit the OSDFA website and contact the OSDFA team for more information.
