Midnight Notes

The Nick Virgilio Haiku Association’s Midnight Notes at Rutgers University-Camden Writers House

As part of the Year of the Arts at Rutgers–Camden, the Writers House is teaming up with the Nick Virgilio Haiku Association to host several of NVHA’s beloved Midnight Notes workshops on Rutgers-Camden’s campus!

Write with local poets in a low-pressure environment on February 11 from 7-9pm at the Rutgers-Camden Writers House. Our host is local writer, poet, and community organizer Reet Starwind CCAS’18. The Midnight Notes is a free late night workshop for poetry practice, where a featured poet leads us as we write on a common theme of the night. February 11’s theme is triumph, and our featured poet is Berlin…! Free herbal tea is served courtesy of local vendor Hush Herbals, and if you can’t make it in person, catch the live stream on our host’s Instagram page @mrstarwind.

Music, writing materials, and tea will be provided. Enter through the rear door of the Writers House.

Berlin…! (aka smoothwaffle) is a multi-dimensional artist and producer from Newport News, VA, with roots in Germany and a story deeply tied to breaking barriers. Beginning his journey as a producer in 2006 and taking rap seriously by 2010, Berlin…! has spent over a decade crafting a unique sound that blends raw consciousness with bold experimentation. A graduate of The Art Institute of Philadelphia, he’s honed his skills as an audio engineer and become a pivotal figure in the Philly music scene, collaborating with a range of artists from Rae.Dianz, Kam Dela, Reek HellaSmoke, and Sonya’s Son, to name a few. With three solo projects, the collaborative album WaffleSmoke…!, and countless tracks on SoundCloud, Berlin…! embodies artistic growth and self-exploration. His latest album, TRiUMPH…!, delves into themes of resilience and rising above personal and societal barriers. The project serves as a raw, introspective journey through darkness and healing, blending intricate storytelling with boundary-pushing production that challenges listeners to confront their own struggles and emerge stronger.
