Cooper Street Workshops: July 23

About the Workshop

Ordinary moments are the ones that make up most of our lives, yet we don’t always feel they’re worthy of writing about. In short pieces of nonfiction known as flash, writers can zoom in on little moments and make meaning of them within 750 words. A morning making pancakes, the receipt of an email, a drive with a sibling—these can all be rich with significance. In this workshop, we’ll learn the key craft elements of writing flash nonfiction based on ordinary moments through reading essays by Sanobar Sabah, Jill Christman, and Amanda Whitehurst, and generate the beginnings of our own flash pieces.
