Cooper Street Workshop: Introduction to Playwriting
About the Workshop
This workshop is an opportunity for writers of other disciplines to experience writing for theater. Students will practice skills for writing engaging dialogue and discovering distinctive character voices, and experiment with writing theatrical gestures and stage directions to create theatrical moments when words fail. We’ll also discuss examples of contemporary playwriting on the page and compare them to actor/director interpretations of the work in performance. Finally, we’ll read each other’s work aloud in class and offer supportive feedback.
COST: $60 General, $10 Camden residents & Rutgers-Camden students
This is an in-person workshop at the Rutgers-Camden Writers House.
