Artist Talk: Erik James Montgomery

Join us in the Stedman Gallery for a conversation with educator and photographer Erik James Montgomery. With a special selection of his works on view for this program, we will take a deeper look into his artistic practice, which combines storytelling and activism, and its ties to the city of Camden.
This programming is part of the Rutgers-Camden Year of the Arts celebration, sponsored by the Office of the Chancellor.
About the Artist
Originally self-taught, Montgomery later studied at the Academy of Art University and Columbia University. He began his artistic career in urban dance and graffiti before dedicating his practice to photography. His photographs explore themes of history, culture, and racial reconciliation in America. In 2011 he founded The Erik James Montgomery Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to educating young people in artistic photography and public art projects.
