Purple Heart Day

To the Rutgers University–Camden community,

Today, we are proud to celebrate Purple Heart Day, which is observed annually on August 7 to honor the brave men and women who have been wounded or killed while serving in the U.S. military. The Purple Heart is a prestigious military decoration awarded to those who have been injured or lost their lives in combat.

Purple Heart Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces and to recognize their bravery and dedication. Various events and ceremonies are held across the country to commemorate this day, including parades, flag-raising ceremonies, and moments of silence. It is also an opportunity for communities to show their appreciation and support for veterans and active-duty military personnel. Rutgers–Camden is proud to join in that tradition.

In 2016, Rutgers–Camden was the first institution of higher learning in New Jersey to be designated as a Purple Heart University by the Military Order of the Purple Heart. This designation reflects our ongoing commitment to opportunity for the current and former military personnel among our faculty, staff, students, and alumni. We take immense pride in supporting our servicemembers and their families.
