I am pleased to announce the winners for this year’s 2023 Chancellor’s Awards for Student Success which honor those who have consistently promoted student success utilizing innovative strategies to design programs, develop cross-campus partnerships, and curricular transformation.

2023 Chancellor’s Awards for Student Success

Student Success Champion Award – Professional Staff  

Honors professional staff members who take active steps to communicate to students that they are valued and cared for as individuals; demonstrates investment in students and student success; is available to provide advice, guidance, and appropriate challenge; assists students with developing goals and achieving their aspirations.

Awardee: Lakeycha Vellon-Cortes, Office of Financial Aid

Teaching, Research, and Academic Excellence Award – Faculty

Bestowed on a faculty member for outstanding contributions to improving student success and learning outcomes by implementing technologies, techniques, practices, or programs that transform the student experience in the classroom. In addition, this can also include faculty members who utilize a variety of research based high-impact educational practices to enhance student success.

Awardee: Ana Laguna, Ph.D. Professor of Early Modern Spanish Literature

Student Success Impact Awards  

These awards recognize (1) faculty, (1) staff member, and (1) group for their commitment to improving student success by implementing innovative programs, practices, and initiatives that transform the student experience outside of the classroom. These awardees will receive $1,500 to develop or expand student success initiatives during the 2024 academic year.

• Staff Awardee: Angela DeRocini, Assistant Director, Learning Center
• Group Awardee: Zachary Lomas, Program Coordinator I and Lindsay Wolf, Program Coordinator I, Student Affairs
