Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Student-Proposed Major
Program Overview
The Student-Proposed Major at Rutgers University–Camden allows students in the Camden College of Arts and Sciences and University College–Camden to design an interdisciplinary major tailored to their academic and career goals. This flexible option is available for either the Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.
To pursue this major, students must:
- Complete at least 48 credits, with 15 credits at the 300 level or above within a single department.
- Obtain written consent from:
- The chairperson of the department contributing the upper-level credits.
- A full-time faculty member who will serve as the student’s academic adviser.
- Submit a proposal to the Academic Policy and Courses of Study Committee at least one year prior to graduation. This includes:
- A rationale for the major.
- Two itemized course lists: one of completed courses and one of current and planned courses.
Once approved, the major is filed with the registrar and associate dean. Any changes to the major require written permission from the adviser and relevant department chairs, and must be reapproved by the committee.
