Bachelor of Arts in History

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in History at Rutgers University–Camden requires students to complete 33 credits of history coursework. This includes the core course Perspectives on History (50:509:299), which introduces students to essential skills such as analyzing primary sources, evaluating secondary sources, constructing historical arguments, and conducting independent research.

Students must also meet the following requirements:

  • At least 18 credits must be earned at Rutgers.
  • A minimum of 18 credits must be at the 300- or 400-level.
  • No more than 12 credits may be from 100- or 200-level courses, with limits on introductory Western Civilization and U.S. History courses.
  • Students must take at least 3 credits in each of the following geographical areas: European (510), U.S. (512), and African/Asian/Latin American/Comparative (516).
  • A maximum of 9 credits from online courses may count toward the major.
  • Optional concentrations require at least 15 credits in the chosen area.

Students may also pursue honors coursework, internships, and teaching certification pathways.
