Drawn to Create
Artists throughout history have been drawn to create, experiment, and express ideas through visual form. This exhibition introduces the elements and principles of art—key concepts artists use to shape and organize their works—through a selection of paintings, drawings, and prints from the Rutgers–Camden Collection of Art.
Featuring works by various American artists, the exhibition shows how artists combine the elements of art—line, shape, form, space, color, texture, and value—and the principles of design—balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, unity, harmony, proportion,
and variety—to create engaging and meaningful compositions.
Along the way, visitors can try hands-on gallery activities that
encourage close looking and creative discovery.
After exploring the exhibition, visitors are invited to become artists themselves—creating their own artwork to display in the gallery or
take home.
