Welcome Back to Campus

Watch a special welcome back message from Chancellor Antonio D. Tillis

To the Rutgers University in Camden Community:

Welcome back to campus for the 2023-24 academic year! I hope you had a fun, rejuvenating summer. I’m looking forward to a strong start in the days and weeks ahead! It is an incredible time to belong to the Rutgers–Camden community. I want to share just a few of the highlights on the horizon as I begin my third academic year as chancellor.

First and foremost, the fall of 2023 marks the start of the Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden’s 50th anniversary celebration. Since its founding in 1973, the School of Nursing has been a plentiful source of qualified health care professionals serving the Delaware Valley and beyond. Throughout a half century, the school has seen large-scale growth in programs offered and national prestige. Exceptional nurses like the 3,000-plus alumni trained in our School of Nursing are arguably more important to our communities than ever before, as nationwide nursing shortages strain the health care systems of our post-pandemic society. Therefore, whether you are part of our School of Nursing or one of our other fine schools, I invite you to take part in this year’s celebration and recognize our School of Nursing faculty, staff, and students for all they do to safeguard our health and well-being.

Additionally, I take great pride in the traditions observed on the Rutgers–Camden campus, so I am looking forward to the arrival of new traditions and the continued celebration of existing ones. Last year, our inaugural Fall Convocation set the pitch-perfect tone for the semester, and I am delighted to inform you that Fall Convocation will return on Tuesday, September 12. Please join me in the Walter K. Gordon Theater for a lively afternoon of song, spirit, and optimism for the endless potential of a new academic year.

As we begin the fall semester, we are happy to welcome 21 new faculty members, whose diversity of research and scholarship has already begun to enrich our community. The dedication of our faculty and staff continues to astound me more with each passing year, and I am incredibly proud of our hardworking, talented, and compassionate students. I am overjoyed to see those students and our many alumni living their lives with purpose, using their Rutgers–Camden education to build promising careers and positively impact the lives of others. The Rutgers–Camden community gives me so many reasons to be grateful that I call our university home.

In closing, I look forward to joining every one of you on the exciting journey in front of us. Working together, we have already achieved so much, and we are well positioned to elevate our impact as we move forward. Have a safe and successful 2023-24 academic year!

Sincerely,

Antonio D. Tillis, Ph.D.
