Resignation of Chief Kevin Lutz

Dear Rutgers University in Camden Faculty and Staff:

Rutgers Camden Chief Kevin Lutz has announced his intention to resign from his position in January 2024 and has accepted another position within New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.

After serving in the United State Marine Corps, Chief Lutz served as a Police Officer with the Oaklyn Police Department from 2002 to 2006. He subsequently rose through the ranks of the Camden County Police Department, ultimately reaching the rank of Police Captain with a multitude of special command assignments including emergency management, operations, community safety, and administration. Chief Lutz was appointed as the Camden Campus Chief on August 1, 2022.

Under his short tenure as Campus Chief all RUPD-Camden Division police vacancies were filled. Further, in collaboration with the Camden County Overdose Taks Force, the CCPO, and the school Superintendents in Camden County, Narcan cabinets were installed at select locations on the Camden Campus in the event of a medical emergency. In addition, RUPD-Camden Division moved into their new headquarters which includes significant upgrades that will enhance RUPD – Camden’s work environment.

Lastly, we saw increased community engagement and employee recognition. While Chief Lutz tendered his resignation with mixed emotions, he expressed his gratitude for the time spent with RUPD. Captain Linne’ Getsinger will be appointed Acting Chief in early January 2024 as we plan for this transition. We wish Chief Lutz well in this next phase of his law enforcement career.
