Year of the Arts: Past Events
Reframing the Narrative
May 16–July 23, 2025
A group exhibition advised by celebrated multidisciplinary artist Mickalene Thomas. Thomas brings together a selection of Rutgers art students and local artists living and working in the city of Camden, including Sonia Gonzalez, MC, Marcy Morris, Lewis Officer, Jazlyne Sabree, De’Von Downes, Brittany Baum, and Tiana McMillan.
Reframing the Narrative is a manifesto intended to promote a more inclusive and accurate representation of Black artists in Camden by looking at both Rutgers–Camden students and local artists that work across mediums and theoretical concepts. The exhibition serves as a platform to amplify artistic expression and to acknowledge individual impact on the city’s art, culture and community.

Much Ado About Nothing
April 10-19
Rutgers University–Camden Theater presents "Much Ado About Nothing." No ordinary romantic comedy, dangers abound in this Shakespeare classic, famously featuring combative and zesty zingers from the prototypical sparring lovers, Beatrice and Benedick.

Ranky Tanky
Thursday, March 6, 2025
Year of the Arts presents Ranky Tanky. The two-time Grammy-winning jazz ensemble rooted in the sounds and traditions of South Carolina’s Gullah region, will bring its lush vocal harmonies and expert musicianship to the historic Scottish Rite Auditorium in Collingswood, NJ. The show—much like the band itself—promises a blending of cultures and a collision of the new and familiar. Year of the Arts programming aims to introduce the Rutgers–Camden community to new styles and ideas while relying on the transcendent, universal power of artistic expression to bring diverse audiences together.
