Tom Thomasson
Tom Thomasson is Director of Athletics and Recreation. A proud Rutgers–Camden alumnus, he brings a proven track record of service to the university and excellence in competition to the role.
Tom excelled as a student-athlete in cross country and track and field, setting 13 Rutgers–Camden records and earning the title of Most Outstanding Athlete in 1999. After graduation, he joined the Scarlet Raptor coaching staff as an assistant track coach, mentoring multiple NCAA All-Americans. He later served as assistant director of the Wellness Center at Widener University from 2005 to 2007 before returning to Rutgers–Camden in 2007 as assistant director of athletics and recreation. In his time at Rutgers–Camden, he has led major initiatives, including the renovation of the Athletic and Fitness Center and the launch of the campus recreation program.
A strong advocate for student-athletes, Tom has contributed to numerous athletic successes, including NCAA national tournament appearances in men’s soccer and four individual national titles in track and field. He currently serves as chair of the New Jersey Athletic Conference committees for cross country and indoor track and field and previously served a three-year term as chair of the NCAA Cross Country and Track and Field Championship Committee.
Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in wellness studies from Rutgers University–Camden and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Rowan University.
