Rutgers University–Camden Writers House to Host Workshop with Artist and Poet Smoothwaffle

Camden, NJ – January 27, 2025: As part of Year of the Arts programming, Rutgers University– Camden will welcome multi-talented artist and creator Sean Mentis, better known as Smoothwaffle, at “Midnight Notes,” a collaborative poetry event to be held at the Rutgers– Camden Writers House on February 11 from 7 to 9 p.m.

This free workshop will be hosted by writer, poet, and Rutgers–Camden alumnus Reed Starwind and will encourage all in attendance to explore their own creative poetic expression on the common theme of “triumph.”

A native of Newport News, Virginia, Smoothwaffle is hailed as a pioneering force in Philadelphia’s hip-hop scene. The multi-talented lyricist, producer, and visual artist’s latest project, “TRiUMPH,” takes his signature style in a new direction influenced by film noir.

Located at 305 Cooper Street in Camden, the Writers House is the home of the Master of Fine Arts program at Rutgers–Camden and serves as a resource to the campus and community through creative programming and other special events.

Throughout 2025, Year of the Arts will elevate creative expression on campus and throughout South Jersey, providing a platform for homegrown talent and bringing internationally known artists to the region.
