Rutgers–Camden Alumna Chosen for Prestigious Schwarzman Scholars Program

Tania Martinez will travel to Beijing for a fully funded master’s program in global affairs

Camden, NJ – January 16, 2025: Rutgers University–Camden is proud to announce that alumna Tania Martinez has been named a 2025-26 Schwarzman Scholar. She is the first in Rutgers–Camden history to earn this honor.

Martinez will be part of the program’s tenth cohort, which includes 150 future leaders from 38 countries and 105 universities worldwide. The group will attend Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, for a one-year, fully funded master's program in global affairs.

With more than 5,000 potential candidates, this year's applicant class was the largest in the program's history. Schwarzman Scholars are selected for their leadership potential, intellect, and strength of character. The program has nearly 1,300 alumni from 104 countries and 459 institutions worldwide.

"I feel very lucky and humbled to have been chosen," said Martinez. "I'm proud to be part of a cohort dedicated to the public good, and I‘m also excited to learn from peers and through firsthand experiences in China.”

Martiez is a 2022 graduate Rutgers–Camden, where she was a triple major in political science, philosophy, and global studies. She currently serves as assistant director of the intergovernmental affairs team for the Department of Small Business Services in New York City.
