Three Rutgers–Camden Students Receive State Department Scholarships

The students will study languages critical to the nation's economic and security interests.

Camden, NJ – April 3, 2025: Three Rutgers University–Camden students have been awarded Critical Language Scholarships by the U.S. Department of State. This program provides funding and support to study a foreign language identified as critical to the nation’s economic and security interests.

The Rutgers–Camden students chosen for the Summer 2025 cohort are:

  • Amy Glasser, a master of public administration (MPA) student, will study Swahili in Tanzania;
  • Jonathan Pamel, also an MPA student, will study Russian in either Latvia or Kyrgyzstan;
  • Aubre Black, a first-year undergraduate majoring in art, will study Korean through an immersive virtual course.

Critical Language Scholarships cover approximately one academic year of university-level language coursework during an eight- to ten-week summer program. Formal classroom language instruction is provided for a minimum of 15 hours per week, with cultural activities and excursions planned outside of that time to expand the student's understanding of the history, politics, and daily life of the host country.

The Rutgers–Camden Office of Scholar Development and Fellowship Advising, part of the Division of Student Academic Success, is committed to empowering current students and alumni through strategic planning, advice, and resources for those interested in pursuing graduate education and funded award opportunities that bolster their long-term academic and professional goals.
