Rutgers University–Camden Alumna Earns Fulbright Scholarship
This prestigious, highly competitive award provides funding for international research, study, and cultural exchange.
Camden, NJ – July 10, 2025: Sophia Westfall, who graduated from Rutgers University–Camden in May 2025 with degrees in English and digital studies, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright scholarship she will use to pursue a graduate degree at Cardiff University in Wales next fall.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education, is one of the world’s most selective academic exchange initiatives. Among the many Fulbright alumni, there are 62 Nobel Laureates, 93 Pulitzer Prize winners, 82 MacArthur Fellows, 44 heads of state, and thousands of leaders across the private, public, and non-profit sectors.

While at Rutgers–Camden, Westfall developed a unique research focus that combines creative writing and environmental humanities. During her time in Wales, she expects to continue her research through fieldwork and anticipates that the work will also inspire her creative writing pursuits.
“I am honored to join the Fulbright community and eager to immerse myself in Cardiff’s vibrant literary scene,” said Westfall. “I look forward to deepening my understanding of creative expression and sharing the insights I gain with the Rutgers–Camden community.”
