Rutgers–Camden Welcomes Renowned Painter Alonzo Adams with Exhibit, Opening Reception Sept. 26
CAMDEN, N.J.— September 23, 2024: The Rutgers–Camden Center for the Arts is pleased to feature “Alonzo Adams: These Eyes Have Seen,” with works by renowned contemporary figurative painter and Rutgers University alumnus Alonzo Adams, this fall.
The Stedman Gallery will offer more than 20 of Adams’s paintings for view through Nov. 16, with an opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 4:30–7:30 p.m. The evening’s event will feature food, wine, and live music from the Camden-based Daniel Spearman Trio.
“Alonzo Adams: These Eyes Have Seen” will showcase the artist’s works of the last four years. Adams’s paintings depict local subjects, as well as subjects from his travels to the Caribbean and Africa, to offer a profound exploration of Black identity and racial justice. His realistic canvases have garnered the admiration of notable collectors and art enthusiasts nationwide. His debut on the Rutgers University–Camden campus follows a successful exhibit earlier this year at the Zimmerli Art Museum titled “Alonzo Adams: A Griot’s Vision.”
Stedman Gallery Hours are Monday–Saturday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and admission is free.
