Ten-Time Grammy Award Winner Arturo Sandoval to Perform at Rutgers University–Camden

This legendary jazz and classical trumpeter will bring his extraordinary talent to campus to celebrate Year of the Arts.

Camden, NJ – August 13, 2025: Celebrated jazz and classical trumpeter Arturo Sandoval will perform at the Walter K. Gordon Theater on the campus of Rutgers–Camden on September 27, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. as part of the university's Year of the Arts celebration. Tickets are free and available on the university’s website.

Arturo Sandoval is a world-renowned Cuban-American jazz trumpeter, pianist, and composer, celebrated for his virtuosity, versatility, and passionate performances. Born in Artemisa, Cuba, in 1949, Sandoval was a founding member of the Grammy-winning Cuban band Irakere before defecting to the United States in 1990 with the help of his mentor, Dizzy Gillespie.

Known for his dazzling technique and powerful improvisation, Sandoval has mastered a range of styles from classical to Latin jazz, earning ten Grammy Awards, six Billboard Awards, and an Emmy. In addition to his prolific recording career, he is a dedicated educator and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013 for his contributions to the arts. He was also recognized at the 47th Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in 2024.

Throughout 2025, the Year of the Arts will celebrate creative expression on the Rutgers–Camden campus and at venues across South Jersey by featuring local artists and hosting acclaimed performers from around the world.
