The WEB CHILD Project: Investigating Kids and the Early Internet in the US, South Korea, and Denmark

Join us for an engaging presentation on the WEB CHILD Project, a five-year, €2 million research initiative funded by the European Research Council. This international collaborative project explores how the emergence of the World Wide Web transformed childhood experiences in the United States, South Korea, and Denmark, and how children themselves helped shape and populate the early internet.

The presentation will highlight the WEB CHILD’s innovative approach to studying web archives through “scalable readings,” enabling researchers to identify and analyze child-related online activities between 1995 and 2005. Attendees will also learn about the project’s comparative research design, the ethical considerations involved in working with archived web content, and the broader implications of this research for understanding the origins and evolution of today’s internet.
