Program Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in History at Rutgers University–Camden requires students to complete 33 credits of history coursework. This includes the core course Perspectives on History (50:509:299), which introduces students to essential skills such as analyzing primary sources, evaluating secondary sources, constructing historical arguments, and conducting independent research.
Students must also meet the following requirements:
- At least 18 credits must be earned at Rutgers.
- A minimum of 18 credits must be at the 300- or 400-level.
- No more than 12 credits may be from 100- or 200-level courses, with limits on introductory Western Civilization and U.S. History courses.
- Students must take at least 3 credits in each of the following geographical areas: European (510), U.S. (512), and African/Asian/Latin American/Comparative (516).
- A maximum of 9 credits from online courses may count toward the major.
- Optional concentrations require at least 15 credits in the chosen area.
Students may also pursue honors coursework, internships, and teaching certification pathways.
