Rutgers University–Camden to Host “The Future of Civics”
Hosted in conjunction with CivicsNJ, the event will celebrate America@250 and civic learning and engagement in New Jersey.
Camden, NJ – March 6, 2026: Rutgers University–Camden and CivicsNJ will co-host a statewide civic learning symposium on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Rutgers–Camden Campus Center, located at 326 Penn Street in Camden, New Jersey.
The symposium will bring together educators, practitioners, students, community members, and policymakers to explore the central question, “What does the future hold for civics in New Jersey?” The day’s panel sessions and speakers will spotlight innovation and excellence in civic learning across the Garden State, drawing inspiration from lessons rooted in the nation’s founding.
Keynote remarks will be delivered by Jane Kamensky, President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. A leading historian of early America, she worked for three decades as a professor and higher education leader, most recently as Jonathan Trumbull Professor of American History at Harvard University. A past trustee of the Museum of the American Revolution, Kamensky is as a member of the executive committee of the national history-civics initiative Educating for American Democracy.
National Civic Learning Week, hosted annually by iCivics, highlights the importance of civic education in sustaining and strengthening constitutional democracy in the United States. This year’s celebration will come on the heels of a major civic gathering in Philadelphia tied to the nation’s upcoming 250th commemoration.
