A young woman marries her boss, and it appears to be a happy marriage—until she murders him. Based on a true crime story that shocked the nation, this landmark 1928 expressionist play is the journey of a woman who revolts against the machinery of conventional expectations and ends up in the electric chair.
Machinal is based on the story of Ruth Snyder, a woman who was sentenced to death by the electric chair in 1928 after murdering her husband.
